Why Is My Heat Pump Running But Not Cooling Properly?

A heat pump that runs but doesn’t cool usually has a setting error or an airflow/refrigerant issue. Check that it’s in Cool mode, the filter is clean, and the outdoor unit isn’t blocked. Low refrigerant from a leak, an iced coil, or a thermostat problem can also stop cooling. We offer $79 Heat Pump Repair Diagnostic with same-day service, and we waive the diagnostic if we do the repair. Our $149 tune-up includes a No-Breakdown Guarantee. We serve Las Vegas, Henderson, and the Vegas Valley.

Quick checks:

  • Set thermostat to Cool and lower the setpoint 3–5 degrees.
  • Replace a dirty filter.
  • Clear debris 2–3 feet around the outdoor unit.
  • If you see ice, turn system off and call for service.
